L'oud è la resina profumata prodotta da alcuni alberi del genere Aquilaria per proteggersi dalla diffusione di un fungo, la Philiaphora Parasitica. Utilizzato in India e nella penisola arabica fin dall'antichità, l'oud compare nella Bibbia come profumo funerario mentre in Cina, questo "legno d'aquila" è utilizzato nella medicina tradizionale per attivare la circolazione del qi. Oggi minacciato dall'eccessivo sfruttamento, la sua coltivazione, vendita e uso sono rigorosamente regolamentati e l'oud che utilizziamo ha un certificato CITES, che garantisce che la sua produzione e vendita non danneggiano la conservazione della biodiversità e si basano sull'uso sostenibile delle specie selvatiche.
